Puppies use their mouth to investigate and explore their environment. They also use their mouths during play, which is a normal canine behavior. Unfortunately, their teeth are sharp and if you’re not too careful, you might get nipped accidentally. Thus, it’s important for a puppy to learn early on what he can and cannot use his teeth on.
Choose puppy toys that are not too big or too small for him. A ball that’s too big for him might be frustrating because he can’t get his little jaws around the ball. On the other hand, small items can be swallowed and become potential choking and obstruction hazards.
Don’t use your hands when playing with your pet.
Puppies that are still teething can benefit from chew toys specifically designed for the purpose.
Always use toys, not your hands, not a newspaper, a sock or any non-toy item when playing with your pup.
Sudden changes in your pet’s health and/or behavior should be brought to the attention of a vet Plano, TX. Schedule an appointment today!
