Training Needs Of Otterhounds

Otterhounds love to eat, so food is a great motivation in training. However, this may become out of hand. They may learn to escape just to sneak into your kitchen, and they'll open drawers, cabinets, and refrigerators to get some snacks.

Plenty of exercise is essential. Fortunately, they have high energy and stamina, so jogging for up to 3-4 miles is only like an outdoor walk to them. Leaving them alone in your yard for too long without sufficient exercise may prompt them to find their own entertainment, which may be displeasing such as excavating in the garden and baying nonstop.

These hard-working dogs are trainable for agility, tracking, and obedience competitions. In fact, every year, this breed earns more AKC tracking titles, compared with other breeds. Despite their strength, size, and barks, Otterhounds aren't natural guardians. They are very friendly to fulfill the duties of a watchdog.

If you have any concerns about your pet's health and/or behavior, make an appointment with an local vet clinic Wichita KS.
