Is The Pavement Too Hot For My Pet Dog To Walk On?

Even though your dog’s paw pads are quite durable, scorching hot surfaces can still negatively impact them as your bare feet would. So, to find out if the pavement is too hot for your pet dog to walk on, just place your palm on it. If it feels too hot and uncomfortable for one or two minutes, then it might be too hot and burn your pet’s paws.

Try to manage your pet’s physical activities as the day’s hottest part is going on. Walk your pet in the early morning or late evening, when the pavement is not emanating the sun’s heat. You could also opt to protect your dog’s feet with thick socks or booties. Even if these are meant for cold weather protection, they can also be used to make walking on hot pavement bearable, at least for several minutes. You may also want to try walking your pet on cooler dirt or grass in dog parks.

If the weather is just too hot for a walk, perhaps you may want to think about other physical exercise alternatives.

Any sign of illness exhibited by your pet should require a visit to your veterinarian Chesapeake VA for proper medical attention.
