Irish Wolfhounds are large breed hounds that are usually in the top part of a breeder’s list of large dog breeds. Both the male and female of this breed can weigh around 90 to 120 pounds. Their height can reach around 81 to 86 centimeters as adults. But their size notwithstanding, these are quite graceful and athletic dogs.
Irish Wolfhounds have been working side by side with man for about 2,000 years. Irish noblemen and royalty often had this breed for their animal companions during that time.
Irish Wolfhounds have been known to be “dogs of war.” These animals participated in battles, fighting against armies by helping to pull riders off their chariots or horses. And as that name hints at, Irish Wolfhounds will hunt wolves when they are not participating in battle.
