How to Treat Your Dog’s Paw Pads for Blisters

Your dog has some tough paws because they are covered and protected by paw pads. Paw pads are layers of skin that create a tough texture between your dog’s paws and the surfaces he walks on. Because your dog uses his paw pads wherever he walks, it’s possible to damage or injure them. For instance, walking on treated walkways in the winter can cause a chemical burn to the paw pads. Walking on hot surfaces in the summer can cause blisters and burns on the paw pads as well. Possible symptoms of an injury or burn include a red tint to the paw or pad and the appearance of blisters. Talk to your vet about flushing or cleaning the paws with cool water then applying a cold compress. Your local veterinary clinic Lewisville TX may also want you to bring your dog in for a quick checkup to ensure there is no permanent damage.
