Hot Spots on Canines Like the Pomeranian

Have you heard the term ‘hot spots’ before? If not, it is a term used to describe areas of your dog’s skin that are extremely sensitive, irritated, or simply itchy on a frequent basis. If you notice your Pomeranian or other canine companion chewing at an area like his leg or tail for any length of time, call your vet to schedule a checkup. Your Pomeranian could be biting at a flea or tick or he could be scratching at a hot spot. In many cases a hot spot will appear where your pup has already been biting, scratching or licking extensively. The main cause for the hot spot could be allergies, insect bites, fleas, poor grooming or even an underlying ear or skin infection. Call your vet if your dog won’t stop chewing or scratching at an area. Consult with your veterinarian London ON for a diagnosis and recommended treatment.
