Caring for Your New Puppy

Congratulations on your new puppy! A new pooch will bring joy and loads of fun to your home, but you’ll want to get your little buddy on the right track now to avoid problems down the road. It’ll help to keep these few things in mind as you start a new life with your canine pal:

● House training - It’s never to soon to get your little pup on a routine. This includes taking him outside to go to the bathroom at the same times each day. Going for walks at the same time everyday can also help your puppy get used to a schedule.

● Feeding - You’ll want to get your little buddy on a feeding schedule right off the bat. Puppies actually require more food than adult dogs to fuel their growth spurts, and may require feeding several times a day. Also, always keep a full bowl of water within their reach.

● Puppy proofing the home - Make sure all electrical cords are covered. Keep toxic chemical out of reach. Tie up window curtain cords. Buy a tall, heavy duty trash can (with a lid) so your puppy can’t knock over.

● Consider buying a crate or baby gate to keep your little pooch in designated areas.

And last but not least, be sure to schedule appointments for your new puppy with vets Chesapeake, VA for regular checkups.
