Avoid Greeting Your Dog Lavishly

Your pet dog might have some confusion when you or other people stare, crouch, baby talk, or stretch out a hand to him. Behaviors like these could actually be puzzling to pet dogs because they cannot discern if the gesture is supposed to be aggression or a friendly greeting. In doggie-talk, crouching or staring indicates aggression and dominance, making these gestures seem like a threat, bringing out the animal’s aggressive tendencies.

When you crouch, it makes you appear like you are about to strike or attack. Dominant dogs will stare at other dogs when issuing a challenge. If you stretch out your hand, you might get bitten.

Should you meet someone walking their dog, avoid giving the pet any attention, not without speaking to that dog’s owner first. Doing so gives the animal ample time to see you properly and sniff at you. Should the owner give you the go-ahead, then you can give the animal a pat on the head.

Do not think twice about consulting your vet Savannah, GA if you have any concerns or questions regarding your dog’s behavior and/or health. Learn more here.
