American Staffordshire Terriers

As opposed to how they are named, American Staffordshire Terriers did not originate from Staffordshire in England, however, they did have their origins from England nonetheless. This breed started as a breed much like the bulldog with the Staffordshire Terrier name not used until the terrier was bred together with the bulldog. The breed was actually once called as Pit Bull Terriers prior to taking English Staffordshire Bull Terriers as their moniker. Right around 1850, this breed was brought to the United States and was renamed American Pit Bull Terriers. And as more changes were bred into the animal’s characteristics and stature, their name once again changed to American Staffordshire Terriers around 1969. This dog breed is known to be loving, playful, loyal, and gentle. They will do well as pets for individuals or families.
