Your Hedgehog's Diet

Your hedgehog is small and cute and similar to guinea pigs, hamsters or rabbits in many aspects but his diet is very different. He is an insectivore so he must eat high-quality protein such as chicken and lamb. Cat or dog kibble is an option butyou will need to break it up since your hedgehog has a small mouth. He also doesn’t nibble like rodents do. A high-quality hedgehog pellet is a better choice because they provide the proper amount of protein and keep the teeth clean like the exoskeleton of insects would. Consider giving your hedgehog freeze-dried insects as a treat if you aren’t squeamish. Make sure his pellet are not stale and he has access to fresh, clean water at all times. Adjust your hedgehog’s daily food intake so he doesn’t get obese. Abnormal poop may indicate an adjustment in your hedgehog’s diet is needed. Contact your vet Auburn Hills MI to learn more.
