Why You Need To Keep Your Dog's Nail Well-Trimmed

Don’t let your dog’s nails grow long. Overgrown nails can lead to the development of “quick,” where there are blood vessels and nerves.

If you hit the quick during grooming, you might hurt your dog and make him bleed by accidentally cutting the part. If your dog is staying outdoors most of the time, you should trim his nails to prevent the quick from being deformed.

When you look at your dog’s legs, there is a part called “declaw.” It can be seen on the upper portion of the leg. The declaw works like a thumb, and it can be seen on the back and front legs.

You can surgically remove declaw if it has become deformed or starts to interfere with the dog’s daily routines. If the declaw gets longer, it might get caught on branches or other protruding objects. So while declaw is still intact, you should trim it regularly to prevent your dog from getting hurt.

If you are not confident about the nail trimming process, you can ask your veterinarian Sharon, ON to show you how it’s properly done.
