Why Pet Ferrets May Bite

Owners having problems with their ferrets must first figure out why their pets are biting. If your pet ferret is attacking your hand, it is highly likely to be afraid of humans. Human hands may have compelled your ferret much suffering before you had it. If this is the case, your ferret will require a great deal of consolation and positive reinforcement.

Ferrets can bite because they rage, guard their space or feel fear, and want to get rid of the handler's terrifying and obnoxious hand. If you put your hand in your ferret's hiding place, there is a 90% chance you will get bitten since it is your pet's refuge.

Taking away a nippy ferret's urge to bite is the key to modifying its behavior. If biting yields no results, the ferret will quit biting. Also, remember to praise and treat your ferret for good conduct. Speak gently to it and offer sweets when it is playing appropriately.

If you have concerns about your pet's health and/or behavior, make an appointment with your animal hospital Wichita, KS.
