Why Pet Cats Are Fed Little And Often

Even when cats are allowed food ad libitum (i.e., unlimited and accessible), they can eat very little often. Still, this may lead to overeating for the following reasons.

Overeating can cause obesity, a complex condition detrimental to your cat's health. Additionally, most cats feed in one container in a specific spot daily. No more opportunities to hunt for food, capture or kill. All of this requires physical and mental effort. A deficiency in mental stimulation can cause lethargy, apathy, stress, frustration and fear in cats. The best way to deal with these problems is to feed your cat in small amounts and more often. Divide your cat's daily food allocation into five portions and use timed or puzzle feeders to feed it over 24 hours. A puzzle feeder is an object that contains food and must be controlled to release that food. These can help your cat's diet extend throughout the day, increase the required exercise, and provide your cat with a fun brain workout.

A sudden change in your pet's appetite and/or eating habits should warrant visiting your pet clinic London, ON.
