What NOT To Do If A Snake Bites Your Dog

If you find a snake bite on your pet, never try sucking out the snake venom. This is a technique that only works in Hollywood. The goal here is to immediately seek veterinary intervention.

●Do not try making an X incision cutting open the bite. This only wounds your pet.

●Do not try using an Extractor Pump or Snake Bite Kits. These could just do more additional damage than good.

●Do not use ice on the area where the bite is located. Ice will just locally constrict blood vessels and just concentrates the snake venom. This then causes extreme muscle damage in that area where the bite is.

●Do not try rubbing any substance onto the bite wound. By this time, the snake venom has already gotten to the animal’s bloodstream, so any topically applied substance will have no effect.

●Do not try using a tourniquet. This just causes additional tissue damage, possibly leading to the amputation of a limb.

●Do not let your pet freely move around.

●Do not try and catch the snake for identification purposes later on.

If your pet has been bitten by a snake, take your pet to the nearest vet clinic Norwalk, CA immediately.
