Ways to Help Your Dog Handle Fear and Anxiety

Dogs may have a strong and protective side to them when it comes to protecting what they love, but sometimes that strong side can become full of fear and anxiety especially around loud noises like thunder or flashing lights like lightning. If your dog paces excessively or appears to be anxious, talk to your vet about ways to help address the anxiety and fear. Some examples include distracting your dog from the cause of the fear and panic. For example, if the fear is of thunder, help your dog focus on other things instead. Play a game with him indoors or groom him as a distraction. If your dog forgets that he is scared then he may be more likely to ignore the noise during the current storm and possibly the next storm as well.
