Have you decided whether to remove the shoes on your horse? Doing so is a perfect chance for the horse to get some rest from wearing shoes. Wintertime is a time when horses can rest from riding, working, or competing. On the other hand, some horses will do well to keep wearing shoes even in winter.
Saving some money is one benefit of keeping your horse barefoot during winter. You will also prevent snow from building up in your horse’s hooves. Also, hooves will grow naturally without any shoes on. Going barefoot will also give your horse strong hoof walls.
But you need to get your horse used to going barefoot in winter. Give until 90 days to have your horse rest from work, and allow the hooves to become tougher. However, this setup is ideal if the horse does not have to work in winter. If the horse still has to work during winter, then there is no need to remove the shoes. Boots can protect the hooves when the horse is barefoot.
