Types of Vision Problems

Have you ever wondered what kinds of vision problems are most common? Blurred vision is actually at the top of the list. Blurred vision is caused by refractive errors, and usually relates to how the eye bends light.

There are a few main types of refractive errors.

Myopia, or nearsightedness, is what happens when things look sharp when they are close but far away objects appear blurry. The opposite, hyperopia, is when things look sharp far away but clear up close. People over 40 sometimes have trouble reading small print. This is called presbyopia, and it affects one in three adults in that age group. Last but not least we have astigmatism, a condition that is related to the shape of the eye. It also causes blurry vision.

Anyone can have refractive errors. However, they are often hereditary, and are usually more common in those over 35. In many cases, proper eyewear is all that's needed. If you know or suspect that you have refractive errors—or any other vision problems, contact your Koreatown, CA eye clinic for an appointment. Read more here.
