Training Your Puppy

You are responsible for meeting your puppy’s physical and emotional needs including using obedience training to teach him what you want him to do and behavioral training so he knows what not to do. Teach your puppy his name before any other training. Reward him with treats and praise whenever you say your puppy’s name and he looks at you. Start obedience training by signing up for a puppy obedience class or working on basic commands on your own. Basic commands include sit, stay, come, and lie down. Lure your puppy into obeying the command using food treats. Withhold the food treat for longer periods as you practice so eventually your puppy will obey you for just praise and petting. Use prevention, deterrents and redirection in behavioral training so your dog won’t do things you don’t want him to do. Be patient and consistent in training your puppy.
