It’s nearing the holiday season again, and most of you will decorate your homes and may use flowers and other decorative plants to make them look more festive. However, it’s important to note that there are some plants and flowers that could be toxic for your pets. Pine needles, amaryllis bulbs, European mistletoe, and lilies are some of the poisonous plants that can be dangerous for your pets when ingested. The aforementioned plants may cause stomach distress (excessive consumption), oral irritation, and drooling to your beloved companions. For poinsettias, they are mildly toxic which may result in mild reactions depending on the amounts consumed. Several holiday decorations that you should stay away from are liquid potpourri (very poisonous to felines) and candles (burn your pets or your house). If your pet loves to climb, make sure that your Christmas trees are anchored to the ceiling or wall to prevent knocking down the tree itself or breaking any ornaments. When opening gifts, make sure to keep the tinsel or ribbons since they may obstruct your pet’s airways if consumed. Make sure that batteries are stored right away since they’re harmful to pets as well.
