The Pembroke Welsh Corgi Around Children And Other Pets

Pembroke Welsh Corgis (“Pems” for short) aren’t the ideal pets for your toddlers. If you have another breed option, go for him instead of the Pem. Why? Pems are excellent working dogs with adept skills in herding. And because of this trait, they tend to nip at the heels or ankles of children.

But if you’re willing to train the dog at a young age to curb this behavior, you may. Pems are highly trainable and intelligent dogs. Socialize them while they’re still puppies – exposing them to different sights, sounds, scents, people, and experiences. Doing so will provide the dog with several opportunities to be well-rounded as he matures.

Teach your kids how to properly interact with dogs. They should learn when to approach and touch the animals and when they shouldn’t. And never leave your pet Pem with your children alone. Always be present during their interactions to avoid “disasters” or accidents.
