Japanese Spitz dogs are "large" watchdogs and family companions, living inside the body of a small pup. Among the breeds that they share a resemblance with are small Samoyeds, Pomeranians, and American Eskimos. However, Japanese Spitz came from a different lineage in Japan. This breed isn't recognized by the AKC, but several kennel clubs accept them.
They are generally an intelligent breed— not to mention the fact that they're low-maintenance, easily trainable, and do well with kids. Needless to say, they may do well in apartments, as long as you satisfy their exercise needs, as well as the grooming requirements of their white fur's appearance.
They're devoted to protecting their people despite their small sizes. Japanese Spitz also barks and aren't the type to back down when strangers invade their territory. So overall, if you are interested in having spirited, dedicated family dogs, this breed may be for you.
