Spray Behavior in Cats

One of a cat’s common behavior is to spray urine and this is considered normal for them but a frustrating habit for the owners. Although this behavior can be overcome, spraying is an olfactory way to communicate with other cats, to mark territory, and show hierarchy in the household. It could also indicate frustration, sexual receptivity, and stress.

Male cats usually engage in this kind of behavior whenever he is around a female cat in heat and could be avoided by spaying or neutering your feline friend. Approximately 10-14 days after surgery, cats would stop displaying such habit, however, a small number of male and female cats continue to display such behavior and can be addressed through interventions from the veterinarian.
