Soaking Bowls For Pet Lizards

Generally, any species of lizards have to be provided with an open, shallow bowl of water where they could climb in and soak should they want to. A lot of lizard species, even the ones that live in the desert, will like this and use it to soak themselves now and then.

If your pet lizard does not soak by itself, and it is shedding its skin, you will want to put your pet in a water bowl that is shallow where it could soak. Or, you can gently mist your pet using a mister two to three times a week so that shedding can be encouraged. Bearded dragons, particularly, often have old skin left behind around the toes, fingers, around the eyes, and tail tips. Misting or soaking could help in getting these bits of old skin off.

If this old skin does not come off after multiple soakings, do not try to brush or pull off that skin. This could damage the bone or muscle underneath. Instead, have your pet checked up by your vet to make sure that there is no skin infection, or if there is, get your pet treated.

If you have concerns about your pet’s health and/or behavior, contact your veterinarians Wichita KS.
