Signs Of Dry Eye

Dry eyes are a very common affliction. Dry eyes can be caused by many things, from dehydration to irritation to insufficient tear production. However, no matter what the cause of dry eye is, you'll find that the signs and symptoms are very similar. These include irritation, burning or stinging, a feeling of grittiness or scratchiness, and blurred vision. You may also find that dry eyes make wearing contacts quite uncomfortable.

There are things you can do to treat dry eye. Try to be aware of and limit your time in really dry areas, such as in smoky rooms. When you are outside, wear sunglasses that wrap around your heat. This will help keep the wind out. Artificial tears can be useful, though you shouldn't use them for extended periods of time without checking with your eye doctor. There are also surgical procedures that can block the drainage of your tears or, as another option, remove the tear ducts entirely.

Your Lake Stevens, WA eye care professional can perform tests to determine if you have dry eyes, and discuss specific treatment options if necessary.
