Sick Cats Get Depressed

Cats can demonstrate many emotions; they can even get depressed. This negative emotion can be brought about by various reasons. Cats become depressed as they grieve after losing someone, a person, or another pet, that they have developed a close bond. Just like humans, a depressed cat will need some extra love and attention until she can cope with the situation.

However, there are instances when depression is caused by an underlying health issue.

A sick cat will not feel good and most likely be in pain. She may not be lively and enthusiastic because of the pain she is suffering. She may be nauseous, may not eat, may have a hormonal imbalance, or feel lethargic because she is sick. Health problems like fatty liver, FeLV, FIV, upper respiratory illness, hypothyroidism, diabetes, dental problems, and other health problems can also cause depression in a cat. A cat’s happiness level can take a dive because of her illness. If you suspect that she is suffering from depression, take her to a local veterinary clinic Cy-Fair as early as possible.
