Cats are known for their independent natures and their calm and collected temperaments, which is a big draw for many cat fanciers. All be it so, it may come as a surprise to hear that cats are actually social animals. Fluffy needs to interact with other living things, be they human or feline. So even if your cat has any and every new kitty toy, climbing trees, and condos, she’ll likely appreciate having a playmate, too.
With both work and social obligations to meet, your cat may be spending more time alone than is healthy for her. Over time, lack of social interaction can start to take a toll on Fluffy, causing her to develop behavior or even emotional problems, such as depression, aggression, anxiety, and other issues.
Here are a few signs to watch for if you suspect your kitty is lonely and needs a playmate:
● Is clingier around you
● Sleeps more than usual
● Change in appetite (eating more or less)
● Acting out behaviors, like knocking things over or tearing at furniture
● Misses the litter box
Since some of these signs can also point to a health problem, it’s always best to get Fluffy checked out by a vet before taking the playmate plunge. If you have more questions or wish to schedule a checkup for your cat, feel free to call us, your local veterinarian Columbia, TN, office today.
