Separation Anxiety Can Fuel Destructive Behavior In Dogs

One of the causes for the dog’s harmful behavior is when they suffer from separation anxiety and this is usually manifested in dogs that are adopted from animal shelters. They tend to be possessive of their owners that they follow them anywhere, or they become overly excited or show some attitude when their owner leaves or arrives at home.

Separation anxiety on dogs affects them in many ways. They can either go into extreme vocalizations and house soiling. In cases like this, avoid punishing your pet because this feeling is usually beyond their control.

Separation anxiety is caused by several factors ranging from changes in the family’s usual activities, moving to a new residence, relaxing at a boarding kennel, or even the passing of a family member or pet.

The way to solve this problem is by counter conditioning and desensitization techniques. Ask your vet Ellicott City, MD about it. Learn more here.
