Did you know that donkeys like to lick on salt blocks? Buying large salt blocks for the pasture can help distract your donkey and keep him from chewing on the fence or trying to find ways to escape. Donkeys can get bored pretty easily if they don’t have pasture mates. Take note of how your donkey eats the salt block, though. If he’s chewing on it and actually eating instead of licking then you may need to take it away. Instead of large salt blocks, you may want to consider tying small Himalaya salt blocks or salt rolls to areas of the fence for your donkey to stop and lick on during the day. These can also be used in the stall if your donkey is stall restless. Always check salt block ingredients and instructions to ensure they are safe for donkeys.
