Eye drops, by nature, contain many different chemical ingredients. This can include compounds that help increase shelf life as well as thickening agents that help stabilize the products. Many of these ingredients are known irritants and may aggravate eye problems. Apart from this, unsafe manufacturing practices may contaminate some eye drops or damage safety seals.
Preservatives
Most commercially-made products use preservatives so that they last for a long time. However, preservatives are irritants and can make eye problems worse. To protect your eyes from any damage, use these drops not more than four times a day. If you feel that you'll need to use more daily doses, go for the preservative-free eye drops as they would be safer.
Contamination
It's easy to contaminate eye drops when you're using them. The common culprit for this contamination is the tip of the eye drop bottle. If it touches your eyes, the bacteria in your eye can transfer to the bottle. If at any point this happens, make sure you replace the lid to stop any contamination. For more guidance on how to prevent contaminants from entering the bottle, read the instruction and warning labels before using them.
Loose safety seals
Even if eye-drop bottles come from a source you trust, you mustn't use them if they come with loose-fitting seals or rings.
The FDA warns that if the collar or band of an eye-drop bottle looks like it's been tampered with, you should not use it. For this reason, every time you open a new bottle, check that the safety seal or ring is not loose.
It is highly recommended to contact Davich Optical for the best eye drops that you can use.
