Most urinary tract infections (UTIs) in cats can be treated easily, there are instances when they keep on recurring. There are various reasons why UTIs keep on coming back. It may be that the cat has stones in the urinary bladder and/or kidneys or there may be an underlying health issue, like diabetes or Cushing’s disease, that is increasing the cat’s risk to UTI. The vulva of some dogs is covered by excess skin and fat that can trap bacteria and makes a favorable environment for bacterial growth and multiplication. Bacteria from the vulva can easily move up to the urinary bladder to cause infection. There are also cases in which the bacteria causing the infection has developed resistance to antibiotics that are given, thus they continue to grow and multiply and cause infection.
