Poison Ivy in Cats

If you notice a strange rash on your cat then she may have gotten into poison ivy or some other type of poison or irritant. Call your vet and set up a time for your vet to examine your cat and the rash to determine if the rash is from poison ivy or some other condition. Poison ivy is a plant that grows in North America and is commonly found in wooded areas. It usually grows in shady areas and can grow as shrubbery, ground cover or as a climbing vine. The plant is identified by three almond shaped leaves and its hairy vine. It is often light to dark green in the summer or a bright red or yellowish orange in the fall. Although dogs and cats can get poison ivy, they aren’t usually affected as much as humans due to their long hair and thick coats. It’s important to note that cats and dogs can spread poison ivy to humans. Learn more from your professional veterinarians Derby.
