Petting Your Cat The Right Way

Have you ever thought of the idea that there is an appropriate way of petting or caring for a cat? Most of the time, we think that as long as we can meet our pet's needs, such as food, shelter, and exercise, that should be enough.

According to experts, before you pet a cat, you must make her familiar with you first. For example, if this is your first time meeting a cat, do not proceed with petting her or holding her right away. You may want to start by extending your fingers near her nose until she becomes familiar with your scent. Once she is used to having you around her, you will notice that she will start approaching you more often.

Take note that cats prefer to be touched or held near the areas where they can easily smell you. You can gently stroke their head, chin, and body. Avoid overly sensitive areas such as her tail, legs, and stomach area.

A sudden change in your pet’s behavior should warrant a call to your animal clinic Roanoke, VA. Click here to set an appointment.
