Pet Ferrets: Keep ‘Em Clean

Ferrets are animals that are not as fastidious and hygienic as cats. These species do not clean up after themselves. Sometimes, human parents find it challenging to train these animals to use the litter pan. In addition, the animals themselves release oil from their sebaceous glands to mark their territories. This oil has a musky scent that may be unpleasant to some. Apart from this, ferrets also have an anal odor that sprays like a skunk’s.

Can you do something about these odors? Yes, you can. You may consider neutering or spaying the animals. Doing so can reduce the unpleasant scents. Here are the other things you can employ to keep the ferrets odor-free and clean:

  • Change the pets’ bedding regularly.

  • Bathe the pets using a kitten special shampoo or diluted shampoos for babies. Do not give ferrets too many baths since it may overwork the animals’ scent.

Take a proactive approach to your pet’s health with regular health and wellness checks at your local animal hospital Chesapeake, VA.
