Otitis In Cats

One of the most common ear problems in cats is otitis, which is an inflammation that may affect the outer (otitis externa), middle (otitis media), or inner (otitis interna) part of the ear.

Otitis externa refers to outer ear infections caused by fungi and bacteria. The infected ear is usually red, with a foul stench because of the ear discharge. There are various ear remedies available, and choosing the right one for your cat is crucial to curing cat ear infections.

Otitis media and Otitis interna are ear infections that begin outside the ear. The condition afterward moves to the middle and inner sections of the ear. Bacteria that entered the ears through the bloodstream or tubes between the middle ear and the upper throat (Eustachian tube) can potentially cause it.

If your cat scratches its ears regularly, you should take it to your vet Anderson, IN for a complete examination.
