Nosebleeds in Guinea Pigs

Nosebleeds can be a common occurrence in animals of all sizes. For instance, some animals like the guinea pig may scratch their nose on something rough in the bedding or on the side of the cage. This could cause a nosebleed. Some guinea pigs may have allergies that could cause the nasal cavity to become dry and even bleed. In addition, a nosebleed could signal an infection or a possible tumor or growth in the nasal cavity. It could also be a sign of a lack of vitamin C in the guinea pig’s diet. Vitamin C deficiency can lead to vitamin K deficiency which may cause a hemorrhage. It’s important to note if your guinea pig has any other abnormalities or symptoms besides a nosebleed as this could help your vet determine a cause for the nosebleed. X-rays may be conducted to rule out tumors. Talk to your vet Virginia Beach, VA for further information.
