Neapolitan Mastiffs Around Children And Other Pets

Neopolitan Mastiffs thrive with families that have older kids. However, they may be too large and clumsy for toddlers, which means they run the risk of stepping on or knocking over them. With that, teach kids not to scream and run when around your pup. Otherwise, your Neopolitan Mastiff may get excited. Remember, this breed is too large to roughhouse with children.

Neopolitan Mastiffs may also feel that they should protect kids from other children. This is especially true when they seem to be fighting, so be sure to supervise them during playtime.

Teaching kids the proper way of touching and approaching dogs is necessary. Be sure to supervise any interaction between dogs and toddlers to keep them from hurting/offending each other. Approaching dogs during his sleep or mealtime should also be discouraged. Lastly, leaving dogs alone with children isn't advisable, regardless of the dog's temperament.

Neopolitan Mastiffs generally don't appreciate being with dogs they aren't familiar with. They get along well with those they grew up with, though— and cats aren't an exception.
