To regulate the temps of their bodies, snakes get heat and coolness from the outside environment. They warm up their bodies by lying under a warm rock or any radiating heat. Snakes in captivity warm themselves through the heat from a bulb or heating pad/tape.
You can buy ceramic heating that can be screwed into a light socket. Remember to screen this and the bulbs to prevent your snake from coming close to them. Also, the heating unit must be thermostatically controlled to avoid overheating the snake. Electric rocks aren't advisable, as they tend to malfunction.
To enable snakes to regulate their body temperature, the heat source should only be at the other end of the tank. For small tanks, you may place the hide box on the cooler side. But for large tanks, it's best to provide a hide box on each end. Although it's unnecessary to provide UV-emitting light, your pet may also enjoy basking in it for hours.
Any sign of an illness exhibited by your pet should be brought to the attention of your veterinarian Derby.
