Is Your Pet Prone To Separation Anxiety?

Separation anxiety is common enough for you to have seen it, especially among dogs. Leave them for half an hour and see how excited they are to see you again when you get back. They'll either pace back and forth or pant like they just got home after an exhausting day or both.

Cats may exhibit similar behaviors to express their distress, although our feline friends tend to be more subtle. They'll stop using the litter box or become obsessed with grooming themselves for extended periods. You can avoid all this by being proactive in preparing your animal days before your scheduled departure.

Let your vet know of the behaviors you've observed. If the doctor determines that the symptoms aren't severe, spending some time with your pet in a controlled environment may be enough to alleviate the restlessness. It should be a gradual transition, from being together all day to being together half the time, to you being gone for hours every day.

If you have concerns about your pet's health and/or behavior, make an appointment with your veterinary clinic Portland, OR.
