Is The Miniature Pinscher A Smaller Version Of A Doberman

The existence of a wonderful toy breed Miniature Pinscher comes with numerous misconceptions.

Some say that Miniature Pinschers (also known as Min Pins) resemble Dobermans. That’s why they assume that the small pups are bred using the genes of Doberman Pinschers from Germany. But experts say these two are separate and don’t come from the same lineage.

In particular, Min Pins came from the lineage of Italian Greyhounds and Dachshunds. Meanwhile, Dobermans root from several other dog breeds, including the Rottweiler. Another misbelief is Min Pins are directly associated with Manchester Terriers because of their close resemblance. But again, this isn’t true. These two breeds aren’t related to each other.

Here are some facts about Min Pins:

  • They’re developed to hunt vermin, especially rats.

  • They were previously called “Zwergpinscher” in their native land Germany. “Zwerg” translates as “midget” or “drawf.”

  • These dogs are delicate-looking, but they have sturdy bodies and strong personalities.

  • They’re known as the “King of Toys.”
