Is It Okay To Give My Cat A Bath ?

Experts continue to be on the fence on the subject regarding cats and baths. Generally speaking, short-hair cats that never go outside the house do not need to be given a bath. Cats are very fussy and will often groom themselves, licking debris and dirt off their own hair coats using their tongues that have comb-like structures. This will keep them from smelling foul and also keep the coat clean. Long-haired cat breeds could use a bath every now and then if the hair coat becomes too oily. Weather conditions and the type of skin can cause this to happen. Then there are the ‘hairless’ cats. These cats, like the sphynx, do need to be given regular baths, at least once per week. This is important because a hairless cat’s skin can get very greasy therefore attracts dirt. Cats, curious creatures as they are, tend to venture into areas that are stinky or dirty. It is in these instances where a bath is required.
