Raising kittens can be a lot of fun and a lot of hard work. Whether you are raising them with their mother or on their own there will come a time when you will need to wean the kittens. Talk to your vet about a timeline for weaning your kittens. In general, weaning takes between four and six weeks. Your kittens should be completely weaned by the time they reach eight to ten weeks of age. You start the process by separating the kittens from their mother for short periods of time. During these times, place the kittens in their own area with a litter box, food and water. Don’t wean too soon as it’s up to the mother to teach the kittens socialization skills, basic eating skills, how to use a litter box, and how to play with others.
