How Much Water Do Cats Need?

Have you ever wondered just how much water your cat should be drinking? If so, talk to your vet to better understand your cat’s specific water needs. In general, cats will drink more or less depending on the time of year as well as the environment they are in. Cats will drink more water if it’s hot or dry out. They tend to drink less of the air is cold or damp. Whether it’s summer or winter, cats need to drink a lot. Typically, a cat should drink between 3.5 ounces and 4.5 ounces of water daily for every 5 pounds of body weight. For instance, if your cat weighs 10 pounds then he should drink around 7 to 9 ounces or at least 1 cup of water per day. You can tell how much your cat drinks by filling the water bowl with 1 cup in the morning and watching the water level throughout the day. For more tips, call your vet Mt. Airy MD.
