Sweat glands and sebaceous glands are the two main glands found in the cat’s body. The sebaceous glands are associated with the hair follicles found on the skin. This gland is also responsible for producing the oily secretion called sebum.
The sebum’s role is to make the hair become waterproof and make the skin supple and soft. The sebaceous glands are found on the chin, eyelids, lips, prepuce, and scrotum area. It can also be found on the lower end of the tail. The sebaceous gland produces the cat’s unique scent. This scent is used to differentiate the cat from other cats.
You’ll know that your cat is marking you when she uses her chin, lips, forehead, and tail to leave her scent on the different objects in the vicinity. You will see black-brown patches on the surfaces where your cat leaves her scent. And don’t be surprised if your cat marks you, too.
If you notice any changes in your cat's behavior, visit this site, or make an appointment with your animal clinic Ellicott City, MD.
