Cat allergies come from a reaction to substances called allergens. Symptoms of allergies can range from mild to severe medical conditions like anaphylaxis. There are two ways in which you can reduce the risk of allergic reactions in your cats. One is to prevent them from going to places where they can be exposed to allergens, and the second is to give them antihistamines to stop the reaction and alleviate symptoms.
If you have a dog that suffers from food allergies, you must identify the ingredient that causes the reaction. There may be a need to go through an elimination diet and prescription diet. This can help identify the allergen in their diet and prevent them from having the same reaction again. Cats who suffer from atopy or reaction to dust and pollen in the air must avoid going outdoors especially during pollen season. Another way to prevent atopy is to give them anti-allergy medications, such as antihistamine and/ corticosteroid to avoid the reaction. Be sure to consult your veterinarian Washington DC before giving your cat these drugs to know the right dosage and prevent adverse reactions.
