How Aggression Develops in Cats

Aggression is actually one of the most common behavioral problems for our feline friends. This usually gets more taken for granted compared to dogs. However, if you don’t manage this sooner, they might cause harm to you and your family or other pets.

Cats can bite and scratch, which can be painful most of the time. The wounds you get can easily get infected, too. There are different reasons why cats become aggressive. They could be the following:

  • Unneutered male cats tend to be competitive and territorial and may threaten other males getting closer to them.

  • Fear also triggers aggressiveness in cats. When they feel like they can’t escape a threatening situation, they get aggressive to defend themselves.

  • Rough play can also quickly develop into aggressiveness, especially when it is directed towards people.

  • Another common cause of aggression is when they are agitated by animals or people they can’t get at. They often lash out at people, animals, or things that are closest to their reach.
