Helping Your Baby Develop Good Vision

The first few years of a child's life are a crucial time. Children’s bodies go through some rapid changes as they develop. While genetics will of course play a role in how your little one's eyes develop, it's not the only factor.

Here are some things you can do to help your little one's eyesight develop well:

Promoting Focus: Mobiles are great for this! You can also put toys within about a foot of your baby, to help them focus on that. Another thing you can do is hold toys and move them, encouraging them to follow with their eyes. As you move around the room, talk or sing to your child, so they learn to track your movements.

Hand/Eye Coordination: Many toys are also helpful with this. Things like puzzles, blocks, and toys that make noise when you press buttons can all help promote good vision development. As your child gets a little older, offer things like drawing tools; modeling clays, such as Play Doh; chalk; crayons; and (erasable) markers. Art is good for the eyes and the soul!
