Hearing in Beagles

Does your Beagle appear to be having trouble hearing? If so, give your vet a call and schedule a check-up. Most puppies are typically born deaf and do not develop hearing until around 21 days of life. Studies show that by the time a Beagle has fully developed his hearing, he can hear about four times the distance of a human with normal hearing. In addition, Beagles can hear higher pitches than humans. Beagles often bark at electronics such as vacuums because they hear the high pitch noise coming from the motor. A Beagle can detect a frequency range of 67 to 45,000 Hz whereas a human can only detect a range of 64 to 23,000 Hz. Beagles are able to move their ears in the direction of the sound to hear better. Like humans; however, Beagles also tend to lose their hearing as they age. Click here to learn more or contact your Barker Animal Hospital.
