Grooming A Labrador Retriever

Labrador retrievers have a double-layered hair coat that consists of a soft undercoat that gives protection during cold weather, and an outer layer that is shorter than that of the golden retriever. Labs undergo seasonal shedding. As the weather starts to get warm during spring and summer, the Lab sheds its undercoat. To minimize the amount of loose hair that you’ll be dealing with, use an undercoat rake regularly. For overall grooming, a slicker brush will come in handy. Shaving the hair coat of Labs should never be done.

Unlike golden retrievers, Labs don’t have long hairs at the neck, legs, and tail so they won’t need trimming on these parts. In addition to regular brushing, the other grooming needs of Labs are ear cleaning, nail trimming, and tooth-brushing. They will need less frequent baths than golden retrievers, except if they get into something dirty or smelly.

Any sign of a skin or hair coat problem should warrant an appointment with your animal clinic Davie, FL. Visit this website Davie Creek Animal Hospital for more details.
