Great Danes are fond of children and tend to be gentle around them— especially the ones they grew up with. However, they are not usually aware of their size and can, therefore, easily knock down small children. As with all dogs, teaching children the proper way of approaching and touching dogs is necessary for Danes. Be sure to supervise every interaction between them to keep them from injuring or offending each other. In addition, discourage kids from annoying/messing up with dogs, especially when it comes to their food or sleep.
Great Danes generally do well with other animals at home, but sometimes, they may be aggressive with livestock or simply act indifferent around other animals. Overall, it may be a different case from one Dane to another— some snooze with pups/kitties, while other Danes can't just stand other pets.
