Does your canine buddy enjoy treats? Chances are, he probably does. Most dogs are very, very enthusiastic about food! Treats actually can be very beneficial. They make great training aids, for one. They are also a good way to bond with your pet, brighten up his day, and make him feel loved.
However, there are some things to keep in mind.
First and foremost? Only offer your pup things that you know are safe for him. Plain, cooked meat, chicken, or fish is a good bet, as long as you have removed the skin, bones, and fat. You can also give your pooch some store-bought snacks. Avoid anything that could be toxic. That includes garlic and onions, grapes and raisins, chocolate, meat on the bone, avocado, pitted fruit, and alcohol.
You also want to be careful not to overdo it. Treats should only make up about 5 to 10 percent of your pup's daily caloric intake.
